eHealth Africa  Academy on Friday held its 5th cohort graduation ceremony, marking the culmination of dedication and hard work for the graduating class.

The ceremony which took place in Kano, also had graduates from other states across Nigeria.

Jamil Galadanchi, the technical lead for eHA Academy said the academy is a software design and development program that is free, to aid young tech enthusiasts to develop skills around designing and development of web applications.

He noted that the idea behind the academy was to bridge the gap in digital skills among young Nigerians and the African population.

Galadanchi pointed out that the training provided the participants with hands-on capability that most students didn’t have prior to their enrolment into the academy.

“In Nigeria, there are ICT graduates from higher institutions who are talented but do not have hands-on skills because all they learned was theoretically based, without much practice.

“When some of these graduates conclude their studies, they are often not employable and they end up wasting their skills and talents so in essence, we want to enable youths to realize their full potential in ICT.

“From the skills the grandaunts have gotten from the academy they can provide digital and data-driven solutions in sectors like health, agriculture, finance, and others,” Galadanchi said.

While expressing her delight, a graduate, Fatima Mustapha stated that before her enrolment at the eHA Academy, she lacked pragmatic skills in web development, but after concluding her course in the academy, she is now an expert in web development.

“Now, I can confidently write codes and it is something I never thought I would be able to do.

“While in the academy, I had serious issues with time management and Java Script but I was able to overcome the challenges.

“I sincerely appreciate eHA Academy for this opportunity because it is free of charge and it’s something I would forever appreciate, Fatima expressed.

Another graduate, Elijah Ishaku stated that following his graduation from the academy, he anticipates delving into cyber security.

He added: “I intend to further into cyber security because there has been an increase in the use of the internet and consequently, there has been a rise in the number of cyber security issues.

“Providing solutions to people in need of these services is what I intend to delve into, in the nearest future.”
