Ahead of the Local Government Election, Saturday, the Police Command in Kano State has deployed 10,000 personnel to ensure maximum and adequate security during and after the election.
The Command spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kano.
Haruna said the personnel comprised of 7,251 police officers and men while more than 2,000 agents were drafted from other security agencies.
These, he said, consist of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) among others.
He said the personnel would be deployed to all the polling units in the 484 wards across the 44 local government areas.
The DSP Haruna explained that there would be restriction of movement in the state between 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. except those on essential services, election workers and observers.
Similarly, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will deploy 1,926 personnel for the election.
Kano Commandant, (NSCDC), Mr Abu Tambuwal said this in a signed statement by the spokesman of the Corps, ASC Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Thursday in Kano.
Tambuwal said the personnel are drawn from various departments, divisions and units of the Corps to provide adequate security as well as to ensure crowd control in 8,084 polling units, wards and collation centres across the state.
“We will ensure maximum and adequate security for the protection of electoral officials, voting materials as well as the electorate in all the respective polling and collation centres.
“Additionally, the Corps will ensure orderliness at polling and collation centres and unauthorised persons will not be allowed into the centres,” he said.
According to him, NSCDC in collaboration with sister security agencies will take effective control to forestall any threat to law and order before, during and after the election.
He advised miscreants, hoodlums, as well as political thugs to desist from disrupting the election.
“Anybody found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The Commandant also enjoined the electorate to observe and adhere with the Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing and the use of facemask during the election. (NAN)
