Tunisia Is Preparing For Its Presidential Election On October 6

Stallion Times

The young of Tunisia have differing opinions about politics and the electoral process as it gets closer to its presidential election on October 6.

Some want to relocate overseas due to a lack of opportunities. “I want to tell the youth: leave through the sea; there is nothing that keeps us here in Tunisia… I have no future here,” says fruit trader Seddik Malki.

Others, meanwhile, are optimistic that the election will result in change. Lotfi Hamdi, a 32-year-old street seller, says, “I hope that whoever wins the presidential elections will fix the country and pay attention to the youth, especially the high cost of living.”

In the next election, President Kais Saied is running for reelection. Saied has been accused of stifling his political rivalry and consolidating power in his own hands since his main rivals are either imprisoned or prohibited from seeking office.

Saied, who has halted parley since taking office in 2019, has approved only two individuals to challenge him.
