Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United, who has been connected to a transfer to Kaizer Chiefs, is a wanted individual.
Nwabali featured in fifteen elite league games for Chippa United before the Africa Cup of Nations. He is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Premier Soccer League team.
It clarifies why Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro chose him over Francis Uzoho to be his reliable man in between the posts.
Nwabali has participated in five Afcon games and has only let up one goal, which came in Nigeria’s opening Group A matchup with Equatorial Guinea.
The Super Eagles, who haven’t won the continental competition since 2013, now have a chance thanks to his bravery.
Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeping has not been reliable over the past few seasons. The current season’s contract for Itumeleng Khune expires, while Brandon Petersen has shown inconsistent play. Currently, Cavin Johnson has Bruce Bvuma as his man in Amakhosi’s goal.
Nwabali’s agent, Mohammed Lawal, has alluded to a larger picture for the 27-year-old despite the uncertainty surrounding his potential move to the Glamour Boys.
Saudi Arabia and France are of importance. Given his success in the Afcon competition in Ivory Coast, there is no reason for surprise,” Lawal stated, as cited by SNL24.
“Kaizer Chiefs linkages are something I have only seen in publications. I am unable to comment on matters of local concern; for information, please contact the club chairman.”
Nwabali’s current goal in the 34th edition of Afcon is to assist Nigeria with finishing in the platform spots.
There is little chance that he will stay at Chippa United past this season; thus, the Chiefs may lose out on the goalie if he moves overseas.
