The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Jigawa state chapter has elected new executive leaders to lead the association for the next three years.
The election took place over the weekend with the incumbent chairperson Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan emerging as reelected chairperson.
Speaking during the inauguration of the new executives, the National Vice chairperson I changed of Northwest, Comrade Halima commended the peaceful conduct of the election.
“The election I supervised today in Jigawa state has followed a due process and all the candidate has satisfied the criteria laid down by the NAWOJ constitution and that of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
“I am appealing to the new executives to carry all union members along, cooperate with state government, NUJ, Partners and the general public in championing for the interest of women and public, as well as peace and progress of the society “
Mrs. Musa enjoined the new Jigawa Exco to work hard in taking NAWOJ to greater heights.
In his speech at the occasion, the Chairman of NUJ, Jigawa State Council, Comrade Muhammad Garba Bulangu said, the election was a product of sacrifice and upholding the principles of Justice, fairness, and democratic tenants.
“So many things happened in the process of this election, but all is now history, there are so many lessons to learn, impunity no longer has any space in our Union, and democracy and justice will continue to prevail against all odds,” Chairman stated.
Speaking during the election, the Chairman of Credentials Committee, Comrade Abdullahi Mukhtar said, they were religiously guided by the constitution, and all the processes followed for the election are documented for future reference.
Other newly elected executives are Fadila Baffa Abdulkadir as Vice Chairperson, Zainab Baba Aliyu Santali as Secretary, Nafisa Hassan Abdullahi as Assistant Secretary, Halima Yusuf as treasurer, Safiya Inuwa Musa as Financial Secretary and Zainab J. Chiroma as Auditor of the association.
In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairperson, Comrade Hauwa Ladan, pledged to consolidate upon their past success in moving NAWOJ forward.
According to her, we pledged to redouble our efforts this time around to live above board, and to abide by our constitution as a disciplined NAWOJ family, assuring we will carry along our members in supporting their noble cause objectively for our collective good.
