The Sokoto State Governorship Election Petition Tribúnal has scheduled Saturday for judgement in a petition filed by Saidu Umar Ubandoma, the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18 2023 election, challenging the eligibility of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his Deputy Idris Mohammed Gobir.

The notice of judgement issued by the tribunal in the state on Wednesday stated that, the verdict on “Petition No. EPT/SK/GOV/01/2023 will be passed on Saturday, 30 September 2023, at 9:00 a.m.”

The Tribunal advised counsels to inform their clients that supporters of political parties would not be welcome at the court premises, as movement would also be restricted around the area by the security Agencies on the Judgment day.

The three-member panel of justices, headed by Haruna Mshelia Sokoto, had reserved judgment in August, after the final hearing and adoption of written addresses.

Governor Aliyu and his deputy had countered the claim, insisting that their educational records were genuine and that they were validly elected, and urging the tribunal to dismiss the petition.
