Jigawa state government has announced plans to engage herdsmen for symposiums, public lectures, and mass literacy classes to enable them to understand the importance of peaceful co-existence, the rule of law, and how to improve their social and economic lives.
Governor Malam Umar Namadi made the disclosure while inaugurating a farmers/herders’ conflict resolutions committee for the Hadejia Emirate Council.
The Governor noted that basic literacy and religious knowledge will be emphasized in the agenda for promoting moral discipline, patriotism love for humanity, and the best way of life.
He however revealed that the government has already directed the State Agency for Mass Education to make adequate preparations for implementing the project which was extracted from the “12 Point Agenda” of his administration.
Speaking at the celebration of the “World Mass Literacy Day” the Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Abbas Abubakar, said, they have concluded arrangements for training of 1,431 facilitators of basic literacy, post-literacy, continuing education, and remedial, literacy.
Abubakar added that within 100 days in office of the present state government, the government has approved for the procurement of instructional and learning materials to all basic literacy centers across the state.
“Also, a total number of 3,000 adults and youths acquired basic literacy education and basic Islamic education. Also, a total number of 2,000 women learners at Women Functional Literacy and Vocational Skills Centres across the state acquired basic literacy and vocational skills for self-reliance,” Abubakar said.
He then assured that the Agency is ever ready to collaborate with Partners, Civil Society, Community/ Religious leaders, and Philanthropists for the implementation of any agenda designed to promote basic literacy in the state and beyond.
“Promoting Adult Education will make citizens more productive, understanding the basic concept of life, sustainable livelihood, good health, peace and progress in the society, ” he declared.
