Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) Jigawa State Council has joined a nationwide peaceful demonstration staged by the Union against federal government fuel subsidy removal, which it described as anti-masses and a unilateral and dictatorial decision.

In his speech at Dutse Government House,  the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari said the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government, the refusal to listen to public opinion/ interest and pay serious attention in negotiation and engagement with their National body has appeared to be undemocratic.

“The federal government action appears to be anti-workers, anti-public and unfriendly to our national economy, therefore we are out to demonstrate our rejection to this unwholesome policy”

“President Bola Tinibu’s led administration is now turning to be ‘ Civilian Dictator” It is not listening to electorate opinion and interest, not consulting relevant stakeholders on a policy decision, this is acceptable and we will vehemently resist it” Comrade Sanusi stated

The Chairman then urged the Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi to convey the NLC message to President Bolas Tinibu that, the federal government shall change its attitude on fuel subsidy removal and the management of its grievous consequences.

“We want the federal government without any further delay resume to  genuine and sincere  negotiation with NLC, and come up with policies and programs that will build the purchasing power of citizens which is now deflated  by the subsidy removal,”

“Any failure to respond to our demand our national body will left with no option than to take further actions to ensure our people don’t die from artificial hunger and poverty ” the Chairman declared.

In his response, the Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi promised to convey the NLC message to President Bola Tinibu appropriately.

The governor who was represented by his deputy Eng. Aminu Usman expressed his concern and sympathy to the workers and the public regarding the hardship that are facing as a result of subsidy removal.

He assured the labor Congress that the federal government and the state government are working hand in hand to ensure the situation is normalized, and the social and economic life of Nigerians is improved.

The Jigawa NLC demonstration started from Dutse Eid ground down to Dutse Government House and it was conducted peacefully with no intimidation from security agencies.
