Kaduna Assembly Gets New Clerk

The Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani has approved the appointment of Sakinatu Hassan Idris as the new Clerk of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Muhammad Lawal Shehu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor in a statement on Monday said the appointment was sequel to the receipt by the Governor of the Report of the Assembly Service Commission on the “Examination and Processes for Appointment of Clerk to the Legislature.”

The statement revealed that Sakinatu Hassan Idris, the new Clerk, is a seasoned lawyer, a National Productivity Award Winner, a top civil servant, and a long-standing election observer. 

Before her appointment, she was the Acting Director of the Legislative Drafting Department, Kaduna State House of Assembly, and Deputy Director of the Legislative Drafting Department, Kaduna State House of Assembly.

From 2016 – 2018, she was the Company Secretary at Kaduna State Market Development and Management Company Limited. From 2004 – 2016, she headed the Kaduna State Rent Tribunal. She was later appointed the Company Secretary of Kaduna State Market Development and Management Company Limited, a position she held from 2016-2018.

The versatile legal practitioner holds a Bachelor of Law – LLB (Hons.) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Barrister at Law ( BL) from Nigerian Law School, Abuja. She has broad and in-depth knowledge of a wide range of legal areas and issues that include Criminal and Civil Law, Criminal and Civil Procedure Law, Constitutional Law, Commercial Law, Legislative Drafting, Legal Drafting, Public International Law, Company Law, and Environmental Law.

The Governor urged the new Clerk to use her wealth of experience to reposition the State House of Assembly and make it a model in Nigeria. He wished her Allah’s guidance in the discharge of her assignment.
