Election Tribunal Begins Trials of 14 Petitions in Jigawa

The 2023 Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Dutse capital Jigawa state has received a total of 14 petitions from various political parties and commenced its pre-trial yesterday.

The petitions received by the Penal included 12 for National Assemblies which includes 3 Senators and two for the seat of the state house of assembly.

The ruling All Progressive Congress has filed 6 portions challenging the victory of PDP in Jigawa Southeast senatorial district, Dutse/kiyawa, Buj/Birninkudu as well as that of NNPP of Gwaram federal House of Representatives constituencies.

Also APC field petitions against PDP candidates for Fagam and Birninkudu state assembly constituencies

PDP has filed six petitions challenging APC victory in Miga/Jahun, Babura federal constituencies, Dutse, Gwaram, and Yankwashi state assembly constituencies.

NNPP has filed one petition also challenging the APC victory in Jigawa Northeast senatorial district while ADP  field one challenging the APC victory in Kazaure/Roni/Yankwashi/Guaiwa federal constituency.

The court had commenced a pre-trial of 11 cases and it will continue with the remaining three today.

The presiding Judge Hon Justice A. A Okeke said the tribunal will continue the hearing and proceeding with the cases every working day for timely dispensation.

She urged both parties, (Complainant and Dependents) to avoid unnecessary dragging and also comply with the rules of penal proceedings.
