The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) in collaboration with the Sports-For-All Commission will organize the 2023 edition of the Olympic Day celebration tagged ‘Let’s Move’ on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in Nigeria.
All States are expected to organize the event in their States.
This was contained in a statement, Thursday, by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
According to him, the “Let’s Move,’’ is an Olympic initiative to encourage the world to move beginning on June 23. The objective of Olympic Day is to create a Global Movement that inspires people to make time for daily physical activity.
‘’The world is moving faster than ever, but people are moving less. Research has found that over 80 percent of young people are unable to reach the recommended daily activity for optimum mental and physical health.
‘’Together, we can help change this. We aim to make Olympic Day the annual day of Global Movement by encouraging people to simply make time to move.
‘’The Olympic Movement is coming together to provide a wealth of inspiration to get active from a 30-minute guided workout with iconic athletes to grassroots initiatives around the world. Please join the movement and let’s move.’’
The event is an ideal platform to highlight the benefits of physical activity which allows people to learn about Olympic values and to put them into practice in their everyday life. Engaging in exercises promotes health and fitness for individuals. Jogging and walking burn calories, tone muscles shape your body, and help de-stress your mind.
The Olympic Day event is not a competition to win prizes, but to serve as a reminder that exercise holds a lot of promise in helping mankind to stay healthy through sports as a way of life.
Due to the extenuating circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic in the last few years, the NOC and Sport For All Commission had to organize the previous events only in Lagos to curtail the spread the of COVID -19 pandemic. With the general atmosphere now conducive for us to organize the program with other States, we hereby encourage you all to participate in the program.
In Lagos, the celebration will be flagged off by the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel. He would be supported by other dignitaries.
NOC encourages corporate and philanthropic individuals to donate financially or support us with their products because of the mileage it will give to the company.
