Police in Kano have arrested 44 suspects for armed robbery and drug dealings in a Ramadan clearance operation.
The operation was in line with the directives and guidance of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on community-based policing, round-the-clock visibility patrols, operation restore peace, and the command’s efforts to rid Kano State of all forms of crimes and criminality, especially the menace of thuggery (Daba), Drug Abuse (Kwaya) and other social vices.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa and made available to newsmen on Wednesday said CSP Bashir Musa Gwadabe, Officer in Charge of the Anti-Daba Squad of the command led the clearance operations in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan 2023.
He said: “All the suspects from various addresses within Kano Metropolitan were arrested with dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, robbed and stolen properties. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of an investigation.”
In another development, in the preparation for 2023 Eid El Fitr Celebrations, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mamman Dauda warns that anyone found in possession of any weapon during the festive period will be arrested.
He further called on all criminals to repent or leave the State completely. Otherwise, they will be arrested and face the full wrath of the law. He thanked the good people of Kano State for their continuous support, understanding, encouragement, and cooperation.
CP Dauda urged residents to pray for the State, the Nation and report incidents to the nearest Police Station, and not take laws into their hands, adding that rigorous patrol and raids of criminals’ hideouts and black spots will continue throughout the State, as the Command will sustain the tempo in ensuring the safety of lives and properties.
He wishes the good people of Kano State peaceful Sallah Celebrations even as he bows out of service after attaining the age of 60.
