A prospective winner of the Sabon Birni/ Isa federal constituency in the forthcoming 15th April 2023 National Assembly supplementary election, Honourable Abdul-Kadir Jelani Danbuga has pledged to ensure the safe return of 5000 Sokoto refugees languishing in the Niger Republic.
Danbuga made the pledge while bearing his mind on the condition of Sokoto refugees in the Republic of Niger which he leveled as pathetic and an eyesore.
He said while in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, he will work assiduously to ensure security returns to areas troubled by banditry and kidnapping for ransom which will however ensure the safe and immediate return to their communities.
“The state Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal while on a visit to the refugee camp in Tudun Sunna and Gidan Runji pledged to provide 10 trailer loads of food items and other essentials but failed to leave up to his promised one year after.
“As you are fully aware all the over 5000 internally displaced persons stationed in Niger Republic are from my constituency, and we cannot afford to sooner lose their presence in their communities.
“Upon return to their communities, we will provide them with farming implements, seeds, and irrigation machines to commence farming activities.
“I am also an internally displaced person, I have to run from my Unguwar Lalle village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area to seek refuge in Sokoto metropolis after bandits attacked my residence and killed my Police security in 2021.”
According to him, the economic activities of my constituency have been crippled and people place in abject poverty due to a lack of political will provide the area with the needed security at the height of the banditry.
It could be recalled that Sabon Birni/Isa Federal constituency has been an area in Sokoto state where bandits and security personnel are battling for supremacy for the past seven years with no hope of ending soon.
