Police Inaugurates Electoral Offences Committees in Sokoto

Sokoto State Police Command has inaugurated two committees to handle the investigation and prosecution of crimes and other offenses committed during the last and forthcoming Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly Elections.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Useni Mohammed Gumel inaugurated the committees at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto.

He said the aim of establishing and inauguration of the two committees is to ensure speedy investigation of offenses committed by sundry individuals during and after the forthcoming Elections.

The committee saddled with the responsibility of handling the conduct of the election is headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Yakubu Muhammad, while the legal team committee is headed by Superintendent of Police, SP Nasiru Lawal in charge of command’s police legal unit.

According to the CP members of the committees were drawn from crime investigators and legal experts who have vast knowledge and experience.

“The Police are equipped and determined to ensure that elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere free of violence and intimidation, “it’s our hope that by the end of March, all cases of Elections would be concluded.

“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has directed with immediate effect police commands nationwide to ensure speedy investigation and prosecution of all election-related cases without delay.

“Sokoto Command has already commenced an investigation of a number of suspects in our custody who were arrested for committing various offenses during the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the state after which they will all be prosecuted before the courts of competent jurisdiction,” the CP added.
