The Sokoto State Coalition of Gubernatorial Candidates has called on political actors in the state to allow peace to reign as the forthcoming Governorship and State Assembly elections are fast approaching.

The four Governorship candidates in a joint press conference held at Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) press center include that of Social Democratic Party (SDP) Sen, Abubakar Gada of Labour party (LP) Comrade Aminu Umar, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Sen Dahiru Tambuwal, and that of Action Democratic Party (ADP) Dr. Ibrahim Liman Sifawa.

They said the call become necessary in view of the misguided utterances and attempts to justify lawlessness by some prominent political stakeholders in the state

The group, however, noted that as patriotic citizens who are concerned with the public interest, they are totally against violence and lawlessness while stressing that peace and rule of law are paramount and above all interests.

They also condemned in strongest terms the misguided statements made by some desperate political leaders in the state which amount to disregard for the law of land and are capable of inciting violence and lawlessness during the conduct of the forthcoming gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.

They call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to be more vigilant in monitoring the activities of all political actors and their supporters in the state without fear or favour according to the law.

“Let us remind you the people of our dear state that you are victims of poor performance by some political class,” they added.

They called on youths in the state to vote wisely in order to bring positive change and not to allow them to be used as agents of violence at the hand of political actors who do not mean well to them.

They appealed to the people of the state to embrace peace during and after the election saying they should go out to exercise their civic duties at the forthcoming Governorship and State Assembly elections.
