The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign rally is halted in Rivers state on the ground of public safety and to safeguard the loss of properties.

The Media Advisory Committee Member of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi told the journalists on Tuesday that the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has not in any way expressed fear on the comments made by Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nysom Wike.

Dingyadi, who is also Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Ayochia Ayu, said PDP considered people’s safety as paramount.

Dingyadi said Gov. Wike’s comments and indiscriminate changes of rally venue needed to be carefully considered as he is the Chief security officer of Rivers state.

According to him, Atiku along with other party bigwigs and stakeholders may be safe through the armed security men in their motorcades.

However, common supporters and loyalists who might come from different areas in Rivers state as well as party supporters from neighboring states might be subjected to the dangers of attacks from the opposition and unknown persons.

“We value our supporters’ lives and their safety more than the Campaign shows, therefore, PCC agrees with the recommendation of the state chapter’s LOC to postpone the occasion.

”It was shifted till when things are done right or we can continue with the grassroots mobilization through other efforts” Dingyadi said.

Dingyadi further stated that Wike’s utterances and other political considerations on insecurity, and lack of assurance of the safety of lives and properties made the Presidential Campaign Committee halt the visits.

He stressed that the PDP Presidential campaign has successfully been conducted in Benue, Abia, Oyo, and others among the states where Governors were considered at loggerheads with PDP National Secretariat.
