Following the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) monetary policy and the Naira redesign of Naira notes, yesterday the Kebbi State Branch of the CBN took a sensitization and awareness campaign into the central market Birnin Kebbi.
The campaign took place at the Birnin Kebbi central market and was headed by the State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the CBN Controller, the leadership of the Market Association, and other relevant stakeholders across the State.
Delivery his remarks the Kebbi State Controller of CBN Alhaji Dantsofo Mannir Abdullahi, urge the people of Kebbi State and other relevant stakeholders to return all the old notes to the bank in order for them to meet up with the CBN deadline.
He stated further that the decision of the Federal Government to redesign the currency is to safeguard the Nigerian in securing their lives and property most especially the businessmen.
“You see the CBN Act of 2007 (as amended) vests in the Bank the responsibility to issue and Manage the country’s legal tender currency such as Naira, kobo, and e-Naira,” he said.
The Controller also emphasized that only three of the current eight denominations will be redesigned, namely the N200, N500, and N,1000 banknotes while all other Banknotes N5, N10, N20, and N100 are being redesigned now.
‘As president Muhammad Buhari launched the new Naira Bank notes on November 23, 2022, we want the people to comply with the rules and regulations’ he added.
Meanwhile, the Controller also urges the people to visit commercial banks to deposit the old notes.
“Citizens without bank accounts are encouraged to visit banks of their choice to open accounts, while you they can also approach the nearest CBN authorized agent to make your deposit if you reside in rural areas,” he said.
In his remarks, the State Director NOA Mr. Joseph Yaro thanked President Buhari for the policy adding that is the best remedy that can save all the customers from handling the money.
He stated that the policy can also reduce corruption in the country, “I really appreciated President Buhari for the new policy, all the corrupt leaders who stole our money and hide it somewhere can be exposed now,” he added.
Speaking, the Chairman Market Association, Mallam Usman Birnin Kebbi thanked the CBN for educating them on the importance of the new notes and assured them that they will abide by the rules and regulations of the policy.
