My traditional title will take me closer to my people – Gatan Gwandu

The Newly Gatan Gwandu Alhaji Farouk Umar Kuru has expressed appreciation to the Emir of Gwandu Alhaji Eliyasu Bashir for honoring him with the traditional title of Gatan Gwandu.

Speaking to our correspondents on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, Kuru expressing appreciation to the emirate council, Kebbi State Governor Senator Atiku Abubakar, stakeholders, friends, families members, and well-wishers over the support and Cooperation towards the success recorded during and after the ceremony.

“As the first Gatan Gwandu and now part of the emirate council members, I promise to be loyal and committed to the traditional rulers’ activities,” he said.

The Gwandu Emirate, the largest emirate in Kebbi State, turbaned and give out traditional tittle to no fewer than 15 personalities including the Igbo Chief last Saturday in the State.

The ceremony took place at the Emir of Gwandu palace on Saturday and was witnessed by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, Alhassan Ado Dogowa, the Majority Leader and former Governors, Politicians, Kebbi State APC Governorship candidate, Dr. Nasiru Idris Kaura Gwandu, Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu, and Ministers.  

The Emir of Gwandu Alhaji Muhammad Illiyasu Bashar gave out traditional titles to a son of the souls including Alhaji Farouk Umar Kuru as Gatan Gwandu and others described all the titles as a symbol of unity in the society.

Delivering his remarks, the Emir who is also the Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of the traditional rulers, said that his decision was to foster unity among the people.

The Monarch then admonished all the people of the Emirate to cooperate with each other and move the Gwandu emirate council forward.

“I equally called on the newly traditional title holders to be dedicated to their duties as they are now the representatives of the Emirate Council, Kebbi State people, and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.

Gatan Gwandu who also expresses appreciation for the title adding that the title will bring him closer to the people in the Community.

“My conferment would motivate me to redouble my efforts on humanitarian services, health, environmental and career counseling for youths, and other relevant support.

 “From now on, we shall continue discharging our services to the Emirate and Emir of Gwandu. All the support services we are rendering, either through my business or NGO, we are going to redouble it.”
