The Kano commissioner of information and Internal Affairs, Malam Mohammed Garba has bagged the Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria Award held thursday at Muson Center, Onikan Lagos.
Other recipients include the publisher of Vanguard, Chief Sam Amuka, Chairman of DAAR communications chief Raymond Dokpesi that of Channels Television, Dr John Momoh, Publisher of Daily Trust Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf among others.
The chairman of the occasion, former Ogun State Governor and Veteran Journalists Chief Segun Osoba said the annual media event designed by the Nigeria Union of Journalists will among others honor top-flight media entrepreneurs who have invested their time, talent and treasures in the media industry.
Chief Osoba called for the establishment of an active website for registered Journalists in Nigeria as a means of checking intruders.
President of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzu said the recognition is not just for media entrepreneurs alone but also professionals who have distinguished themselves in the course of duty.
Chief Isiguzu said the NUJ has mapped out strategies of building capacity of Journalists in the country for enhanced professionalism.
Chief Raymond Dokpesi who spoke on behalf of the recipients lamented poor welfare package for Journalists in the country and called for a reversal of the unfortunate trend.
