Lawmaker Donates N19m Food Items to Flood Victims in Jigawa

Lawmaker Representing Buji/Birnin Kudu Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, Hon Engr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu has donated food items and other relief materials worth over N19 million to flood victims in his constituency.

Speaking at the flag-off for the distribution of the relief materials, Hon Magaji sympathized with victims and urged them to accept the disaster as an act of destiny.

He said the devastating adverse effect of the flooding is huge and the victims are in dire need of assistance.

The Rep Member noted that he dean it as a member representing the area, it is a moral responsibility upon him and any well-to-do person to complement the government effort in providing relief materials to the victims.

He presented the food and the relief materials to the 9 district heads in the constituency for onward distribution to the victims in their area.

The materials included 800 bags of 120kg Maize, cocking oil, rice, roofing sheets, nails, and other relief materials.

He then told the victims that the relief materials were provided with the aim of reducing the hardship they are facing, not compensating for their loss.

Hon Magaji then prays Almighty Allah to grant eternal rest to over 130 people who lose their lives and also prevent such occurrences in the future.

According to reports from the State Emergency Management Agency, over 134 people died and over 100,000 were displaced while hundreds of hectares of farmlands and property with millions of Naira were destroyed by the flood and rainstorm disaster that ravaged the state in the last three months.
