Communities of Haya in Gwaram Local Government Areas of Jigawa state have called on the Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority (HJRBA) to come to their rescue over the imminent collapse of Haya Dam which may result in the total submerging of the community.
The community made the appeal in a statement made available to newsmen by the communities’ leader, Malam Muhammadu Lawal Ibrahim.
The statement noted that the Dam which some part of it already collapsed has washed away a hundred hectares of farmland.
It reiterated that there is a need for immediate repair of the dam before its total collapse will have a hugely adverse effect on the social and economic life of the unity.
The statement narrated that the Dam was constructed about 12 years ago and since then the fortune and economic life of the community improved through the provision of irrigation facilities provided by the Dam.
According to the statement, the Dam started spilling last week as a result of heavy downpour and overflow from the water sources which resulted in the collapse of some portions of the Dam
The statement, therefore, called on the authority concerned HJRBDA to come to their rescue before it is too late to cry.
