Sokoto State Governor Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has pledged to improve the welfare of primary School teachers in the state including Salary increase and other incentives.
The Governor made the pledge on while launching the distribution of instructional materials to sll the 23 Local Government Education Authorities in the state held at the conference hall of the State Universal Basic Education board.
Tambuwal said his administration is fully cmmitted to increasing the salaries of primary school teachers just as done to civil servants.
He said the gesture is long over due but can not be implemented as a result of alleged large number of ghost in the LGEA payrolls.
According to him the verification exercise is not meant to expel any teacher from service but to ascertain the genuine ones in the system.
He said by so doing more funds would be saved which use to Improving teachers welfare and employ more capable hands in the profession .
Governor Tambuwal further stated that his administration will .send a bill to the State House of Assembly for the extension of service years of teachers from 60 to 65 years.
In his remark the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education Alhaji Mohammed Bello Abubakar Gwuiwa said the instructional materials were secured by the state government in it’s effort to boost basic education in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji said the instructional materials were meant for distribution not to only schools under the board but also to schools under the state Ministry for Science and Technology , state Arabic and Islamic Education Board, Female Education Board, Agency for Mass Education and Agency for Nomadic Education among others.
The Instructional Materials according to him included Chalk, Attendence, Admission and Pupils Registers,Scheme of Work Records and Diaries.
Others are English Text Books for Primary four to six,Desktop computers and Radio sets Provided by UNICEF as well as School bags, Sandals shoes, Mats and Uniforms to Pupils Under the Better Education Service Delivery for All project.
Also in the distribution, Nine thousand double Seat table and Desks made available to schools in dare need of classrooms furniture.
