Bagudu Signs Child Right Protection, Violence Against Individual Bills into Law

Kebbi State Governor has signed two bills into law, prohibiting violence against individuals and the protection of child’s rights.

This consists of the laws which eliminate violence in private and public, 2022, prohibiting all forms of violence, providing maximum protection, effective remedies, and punishment of offenders.

Also signed into law is the protection of the child’s rights bill.

Governor Atiku Bagudu appends his signature to the two bills passed by the State House of Assembly at the weekly Executive Council meeting presided by him on Wednesday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

He explained that the action was a further demonstration by the Kebbi state to the international community about its commitment to effectively apply the law against gender violence and strengthen the protection of children.

Governor Bagudu thanked the Kebbi State House of Assembly for their hard work and for graciously passing the law in conformity with the cultural and religious values of the people of the state.

He equally thanked Religious Leaders and Traditional Rulers for reviewing the law to ensure conformity with religious stipulations.

He expressed appreciation to development partners and other groups for their support to the government towards actualizing the enactment of the law and its application.

The Governor was similarly grateful to his wife, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu for her immense and great support for initiating and facilitating awareness and formulation of the law against gender violence and the protection of children’s rights and privileges.

Bagudu, therefore, expressed hope and confidence that the law would be beneficial to the people of Kebbi state.
