Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Usmanu Danfidiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) Chapter has accused the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige of not telling Nigerians the truth about the state of ASUU and the Federal Government (FG) crisis.
The Union in a press conference held on Sunday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, Zuru Road Sokoto described Dr. Ngige as a stumbling block in the negotiations between ASUU and FG on how best to end the long-standing strike.
The Chairman of the Union, Mr. M. Al-mustapha said Dr. Ngige has alleged that the Sokoto branch of ASUU has graduated medical students during strike action, adding that the ASUU branch of Usmanu Danfidiyo University has not graduated any student since the commencement of the strike in February 2022.
He challenged the Labour Minister to produce any factual evidence to back his claim which they labeled as a blatant lie, saying there was never a letter written by the Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto by any of his representatives or any official of the Union depicting that, Medical lecturers are not on strike in UDUS.
According to ASUU, Dr. Ngige has succeeded in misleading critical stakeholders in the struggle that the issue at stake between ASUU and FG.
“We know better than the treacherous anti-intellectual posture of “conciliator”, Dr. Ngige has always been the bane of the current ASUU FG crisis.
“The entire members of ASUU-UDUS branch including the college of health sciences are fully on a total and comprehensive strike which commenced on the 14th of February 2022.
