The Vice President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Northwest Zone, Rilwanu Idris Malikawa has urged sports journalists to intensify efforts in promoting sports in their domains.

Malikawa made the call in his message to SWAN members of the Northwest zone and other sports stakeholders in commemorating this year’s world sports journalist’s day celebrations.

He said considering the significant role of sports in uniting the country there is a need for sports writers to redouble their efforts in mobilizing and enlightening the public on how sports is playing a great role in providing job opportunities to the teeming youths and socio-economic development of Nigeria.

The Vice President urged the state governments in the zone to always considered sports journalists as partners in progress and give them all the necessary support to discharge their duties effectively.

He then assured that the association under the leadership of its National President, Mr. Honour Sirawoo would remain focused on projecting the image of its members and the sports sector in general.

“Let me use this opportunity to join you as a sports journalist to celebrate this year’s world sports day and wish you many more years to celebrate,” he added.

He commends the Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina state chapters of SWAN for successfully organizing various sports competitions in their states and urged other chapters in the Zone to emulate them.
