The Director of Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Dr. Chris Pycroft said the UK Government will spend 6.2 million pounds on Health, Education, and Core Governance in 2022 through the Mutual Accountability Framework (KanMAF) in Kano State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hassan Musa Fagge, in a statement on Wednesday, said that Mr. Pycroft made the disclosure during the 2nd Mutual Accountability Framework (MAF) Strategic Dialogue meeting between Kano State Government and the FCDO held at the Government House, Kano.

According to the statement, he said good progress has been made in the MAF because in 2021 FCDO committed 5.5 million pounds in support of Kano’s development ambitions.

Dr. Pycroft further explained that the MAF and Strategic Dialogue are a clear statement of the United Kingdom’s commitment and support to the government and people of Kano State.

Earlier, while declaring the occasion open, Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said the aim of the meeting is to review the commitment of the 1st KanMAF which was signed last year to ascertain the journey so far with regard to implementation of key activities.

“The KanMAF sets out the reform initiatives the Kano State Government introduced and the support FCDO will provide to drive overall growth and development of Kano State.

“The revised KanMAF will continue to monitor concrete reforms that will support good governance, improvement in economic recovery, and investment.

“And also reduce poverty through human capital development, particularly on health, education and social protection.”

The Governor assured the UK-FCDO and other development partners that Kano State Government is fully committed to the success of the KanMAF.

During the occasion, Governor Ganduje launched state policy documents on the Development Plan, Social Protection, Food and Nutrition, and Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action.

Governor Ganduje, alongside Mr. Pycroft signed the KanMAF Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The event was attended by Commissioners, Chairman Technical Committee on KanMAF, Alh. Rabi’u Suleiman Bichi, Representatives of Traditional Institutions, Permanent Secretaries, Development Partners, and Civil Society Organizations
