17th Anniversary: Emir of Gwandu Urges Leaders to Fear God

Emir of Gwandu Emirate and Chairman Council of Chiefs, Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu-Bashar, has described leadership as a burden that must be taken with special interest and fear of God Almighty.

The Emir stated this during a special prayer to mark his 17th year anniversary on the throne, held at Abdullahi Fodio Palace, in Birnin Kebbi.

He urged leaders to always reflect on what they have done in the past, in order to borrow a leave from the good leadership style of the past towards building a brighter future.

The Chairman Council of Chiefs also used the medium to thank God for keeping him alive and healthy to record a lot of successes in his life.

He also thanked his parents for their efforts to nurture him to become useful to society.

The Emir, therefore, sought forgiveness from all his subjects, He said: “I seek for forgiveness from all of you, whoever felt that I have offended him should please forgive me and whoever knew that I have done something good to him or her should give glory to God Almighty.

“I have also forgiven all those who might have offended me knowingly or unknowingly.

“I remember, that was my last speech to the people of Adamawa state while I was leaving there as a military Governor many years ago.”

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammadu Zayyanu-Abdullahi commended the leadership qualities of the Emir which according to him centered on peaceful coexistence.

He, therefore, advised leaders at all levels to be just in dealing with their subjects so as to be able to achieve greater success.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioners for Works and Housing who doubles as the Director-General of Gwandu Emirates Development Association (GEDA), Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan described the reign of the Emir as very peaceful, honor, and blessing to Gwandu Emirate.

He stressed that the Emirate has witnessed tremendous development and expansion in the last 17 years he ascended the throne.

Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hassan Muhammad-Shalla commended the unique leadership qualities of the Emir and thanked the Emir for organizing a weekly special prayer in search of peace, apart from extending useful advice to those in the position of authority.

He noted that the Emir is a true father who always advised his subjects on the need to properly  brought up their children towards building a sound and decent society.
