A pro-democracy group, Progressive Network for Democracy (PND) has commended the peaceful conduct of the All-Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Jigawa state.
PND made the commendation in a press statement signed by its National Secretary, comrade Sale Birniwa in Dutse.
The statement described the conduct of the primary election as successful, a sign of democratic development in the state, and also how people of the Jigawa state and political actors respect the tenets of democracy.
The group also commended Governor Muhammad Badaru for being neutral during the primary which provided enabling environment for all the aspirants to participate freely without fear of political intimidation. Participants all got an equal chance to test their popularity.
PND also described Governor Badaru as a champion of democracy, peace, and good governance.
However, the statement noted that the primary election which produced Alhaji Umar Namadi as the APC gubernatorial flag bearer was one of the most credible in the history of Jigawa state politics.
“As an independent group, we have assessed the track record of the Deputy Governor, Malam Umar Namadi. We found he is a man of integrity, peace-loving, democrat and progressive.”
The group then called on the people of the state to ensure in the forthcoming 2023 general election they voted only for people of integrity, tested, and trusted for peace and progress of the state.
