The Brazilian picked up a knock in the Reds’ last Premier League outing, leading to fears that he could sit out a European encounter with Real Madrid
Jurgen Klopp has announced that Fabinho “will definitely be back” for Liverpool’s Champions League final clash with Real Madrid on May 28.
The versatile Brazilian limped off in the first half of the Reds’ 2-1 win at Aston Villa on May 10, which saw them keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City in the title race.
It was later revealed that the South American was suffering from a muscle issue, with their suggestions that he may not feature again in 2021-22.
Brazil national team physio Fabio Mahseredjian gave a positive update on Fabinho the day after the Villa game as he expressed his optimism that the player would return to full fitness ahead of Liverpool’s European encounter with Real at Stade de France.
Klopp has echoed Mahseredijian’s sentiments, saying ahead of a FA Cup final clash with Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday: “[He] will definitely be back for the [Champions League] final, and for the Chelsea final and before, we will see, we don’t know. That’s it.
“[He is] absolutely OK. Fab is a professional, he was obviously not happy about it, that’s clear, but he took it and is already taking on the fight against time, if you want. That’s how it is.
“It is not enough if you are ready on Friday before the final, it should be Tuesday or Wednesday or something like that and we are working on that and we are all very positive that it will be the case. So he is absolutely OK.”
Fabinho has played a key role in Liverpool’s pursuit of an unprecedented quadruple this term, with one of his best showings coming in their penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.
The 28-year-old has appeared in 47 games across all competitions in total, scoring eight goals, including five in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be hampered by the loss of Fabinho when they return to Wembley this weekend, but supporters will hope he can still come back to aid their final two bids for silverware.
