The Cross River state governor Prof Ben Ayade, has directed the withdrawal of the certificate of recognition of the Paramount Ruler of Calabar South Local Government Area, Prof Itam Hogan Itam for getting himself involved in partisan politics with immediate effect.
The Governor’s order was contained in a letter dated 11th May 2022, and signed by the Special Adviser to the governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Adoga Ifop Victor.
Prof. Itam was accused of dabbling in partisan politics.
The letter reads: “Following the report of the panel set up by the Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council (CRSTRC) and the approval of His Excellency, you have been removed as the village head, Clan head of Ukem, and Paramount Ruler of Efuts with immediate effect to enable you to go ahead to do your partisan politics.
“You, therefore, cease to be so recognized and cannot operate as such forthwith.”
Reports had it that Governor Ayade’s decision may not be unconnected with Prof. Itam’s attendance at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Cross River State Southern caucus meeting held last week, wherein Sir Arthur Jarvis was adopted as the consensus candidate for Governorship from southern senatorial district.
