The General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigeria Army, Major General Uwen Bassey says Internal security is a global phenomenon that requires all hands on deck to address, especially in the North-Western part of the country.
The GOC made the remarks at the just concluded 2021 West African Social Activities, WASA held in Sokoto.
He said the Nigeria Army is doing a lot in assisting the Police and other security agencies in addressing internal security as enshrined in the Constitution.
He assured that the army would continue to do its best in its bid to ensure peace and stability in the country.
While commenting on the annual event, the GOC said the WASA gives an opportunity for officers and men as well as their families and friends to interact freely.
He explained that the WASA is a forum for showcasing cultural displays from various ethnic groups in the country as it relates to Army with a view to promoting unity among Nigerians.
In his message at the occasion, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto commended 8 Division, stressing that despite operational engagement against banditry, the Division managed to organize an important event that foster unity, peace among Nigerians.
The Governor who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Saidu Umar said the government would continue to support Army for effective service delivery to the nation.
