Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF), the umbrella body of civil society organizations operating in the State has called on the government to immortalize Alh. Bashir Othman Tofa by naming Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, after the deceased in recognition of his contribution to State and Nigeria.

The call was contained in a letter of condolence to governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje jointly signed, Tuesday, by KCSF President, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya and the General Secretary, Mr. Peter Hassan Tijjani.

Other parts of the statement read; “We have acknowledged the contribution of Alh. Bashir Othman Tofa to the development of humanity during his lifetime, as a distinguished politician of note, and successful businessman of great repute at State, national and international levels.

“Tofa was one of the prolific writers, erudite and true nationalist, who had gotten several publications to his credit.

“He was the Presidential candidate under the platform of NRC, in 1993, was since then in active services to humanity in the areas of educational support to vulnerable and orphans, advocating for peaceful co-existence, unity, ideals and best practices of true democracy for the betterment of citizenry and development in the country.

“It is our firm belief that the death of Alh. Bashir Othman Tofa was indeed another great loss of the rare breed of a distinguished personality. Although he lived a fulfilled life, Nigeria is certainly in need of his services, especially at this critical time when the country is passing through enormous challenges around unity, peace, national integration, and political stability

“We, therefore, urge His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to immortalize the deceased by naming Kano University of Science and Technology after him, as a mark of respect and recognition of his enormous contributions to Kano and Nigeria during his lifetime.

“Alh. Bashir Othman Tofa died in active service to humanity as a philanthropist, advocate for national unity and political emancipation of the downtrodden.”

KCSF then prayed to Almighty Allah to grant his soul infinite mercy, eternal peace, and rest and grant him Jannatul-Firdaus, and provide for the family, friends, and associates, as well as the good people of Kano the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
