In a bid to enhance the living condition of physically challenged people, Jigawa state in collaboration with civil society has launched the Persons with Disabilities Fund with millions of Naira donations realized.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar said, the state government is determined to ensure an all-inclusive society, and any person that needs help in the society is taken care up.
He said the state government has signed the disability law and Social Protection Council law which culminated in the actualization of the Person with Disabled Fund and the commencement of Cash Transfer to over 5,000 selected pregnant women for enhancing their nutrition and encouraging them to attend hospitals for antenatal and postnatal care.
The Governor then promised to donate some part of his monthly salary for his remaining period in office, other promises for the monthly donations came from the members of the state executive council, State Assembly, 27 Local government councils, NURTW, and Labour Congress.
Also, the NUJ Corresponds Chapel promised a monthly donation for one year, CBN also promised to send undisclosed amounts of money as their donation to the Fund.
The chief launcher of the fund, Alhaji Haruna Maifata donated N2 million, Hon Tijjani Gaya donated N1 million among others.
In his goodwill message, the Social Protection Manager, ESPID Mr. Abiodum Abanwo promised to continue providing technical support and other intervention for the sustainability of the fund, enhancing the lives of vulnerable members of the society, and addressing hunger /nutrition challenges in the state.
In his Vote of thanks, the Chairman Joint Association of Physically Challenge Persons, Alhaji Usman Muhammad thanked the Jigawa state government, civil society, donor partners, media, and the general public for showing their concern to the physically challenged person by donating to the Fund and gracing the occasion.
