Gov. Badaru Signs Child Rights Act With Sharia Guidance

Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state has on Wednesday assent the child rights act bill into law urging all stakeholders to ensure full implementation of the law.

The governor had signed the controversial bill 24 hours after the state house of Assembly passed it.

He added that, his government is always ready to sign law, execute program or projects that will protect and enhance the life, social and economic welfare of peoples of Jigawa state.

Speaking to Journalist shortly after signing the bill into law, the Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Legal Matters and also Member representing Hadejia constituency, Hon Barrister Muhammad Abubakar Jallo said, he state’s child rights act will strictly be guided by Sharia legal system.

According the Chairman, the bill seeks to improve the wellbeing of the children and also provide maximum protection to norms, spiritual and cultural beliefs of the Jigawa state people.

“Sharia has provided protection to the fundamental human right of children and the bill or the law seeks to impose full implementation of the right of the children.

He explained that, representative of council of Chiefs, Ulamas, Judiciary, Civil Society, Hisba, Professionals, Security agencies, Legislative, Executive and other critical stakeholders were engaged in discussions and review of the act.

Hon. Jallo added that, there were some sections and clauses of the draft bill that was removed while some are re-amended to be intandem with sharia legal system.

Similarly, the state governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has signed the 2022 state and local government budget.

He said, the budget will start from 1st January to 31st December 2022 with total some of N177.7 billion appropriated for the year.
