Sokoto Governor’s Wife Empowers Gender Base Violence Survivors, Others

The wife of Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Mariya Aminu Waziri Tambuwal gave out a cash grant of 20,000 naira each to 200 survivors of Gender based violence and persons with special needs in the state.

The Governor’s wife said the initiative was made with a view to assist them established a small-scale venture to carter for their families and eventually make them self-reliant.

Speaking during a short ceremony marking the disbursement of the grant, Mariya Tambuwal admonishes the beneficiaries of the grant to use the money for the purpose it was intended for.

She said in the past, her pet project has contributed so much in the fight against gender-based violence against girl child and women in their matrimonial homes.

Mrs Tambuwal further stated that, the ungodly act of violence against women has drastically reduced due to continue advocacy and sensitization to stakeholders and community leaders.

She said the era of treating women like slaves is over as the world has come to understand that women have a very vital role to play in nation building and character modelling of young ones who were expected to be leaders of tomorrow.

She urges the beneficiaries to pray for peace and tranquility to prevail in the country, adding that the current security challenges facing Northwest and Sokoto state in particular has negatively affected the future of many homes.

“A situation whereby the breadwinner of a family is killed, that family is bound to face difficulties and it will eventually crumble and disintegrate living women at the receiving end” the first lady lamented.

In her comments, one of the beneficiaries of the 20,000 naira grant Fatima Mohammed mode Sanyinna thanked the Governor’s wife Mariya Aminu Waziri for her bold initiative in the fight against gender violence against women.

She said the grant would definitely assist them to engage in a small venture that would make them and their children survived the current economic hardships.

She prayed God to protect and guide the first lady and her husband Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in their future endeavors.
