Flood Relief Material: Bagudu Warns Distribution Committee Against Diversion

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has warned committees in charge of distribution of relief materials to flood victims to ensure the process is transparent in the course of the exercise.

The Governor gave the warning on Friday in Birnin Kebbi at the distribution ceremony of items donated by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to 2020 flood victims, requesting security agencies, media, NGOs and civil society organizations to be watchful in ensuring that the items were not diverted but reached the target beneficiaries.

The distribution exercise was being carried out in seven local government areas of Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Dandi, Shanga, Bunza, Koko/Besse and Bagudo, under the first phase of which persons of impeccable character were chairing the committees of each local government.

Members of the committee are security agents, commissioners, members of the house of assembly, traditional rulers and the immediate past local government chairmen.

He further warned the members against breach of the distribution process of ensuring that only genuine victims take delivery of the items.

The Governor who is the Vice-Chairman of the National Food Security Council expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the provision of the relief materials to flood victims nationwide towards cushioning the difficulties encountered.

Bagudu announced that he has approved seventeen million naira to off-set the cost of the distribution exercise including transportation, warning that nobody should collect money from beneficiaries as return gift.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri said verification exercise of the flood victims was carried out in all the attended local government areas to ascertaining those affected genuinely.

Kebbi state NEMA Supervisor, Mallam Tukur Abubakar announced the basket of distribution made up of items such as rice, maize, Guinea-corn, seeds, herbicides, pesticides, water pump machines and growth enhancers.

The Chairman of the committee for Birnin Kebbi local government, Alhaji Abubakar Bello Dakingari gave assurance that all members would discharge their assignment with transparency and fairness.
