Seven Girls Die in Jigawa Canoe Mishap

No fewer than seven girls have died after their canoe capsized at Gasanya village in Kafin Kausa local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Jigawa State Command spokesperson, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Friday at about 0015hrs when the victims were said to be in a haste and anxiety to reach home, they, therefore, decided to paddle a canoe parked at River at Gasanya village by themselves in the absence of a craftsman.

“In the process the canoe capsized with girls numbering about ten, three were rescued while seven others died.

“All the girls, aged from 10, 11, and 12 years old respectively, came from Gafasa village through K/Hausa LGA to Gasanya village in Auyo LGA for Maulud Celebration.

“The victims were evacuated and referred to General Hospital Kafin Hausa F.N.A where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the statement added.
