Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has on Friday performed its first spine surgery in the hospital.
The consultant, neurosurgeon and the team leader for the surgery, Dr. Musbahu Ahmed disclosed that the surgery was conducted following the donation of the equipment for the spine surgery by a philanthropist last year and its installation by the hospital management.
A statement signed by Spokesperson, Hauwa Muhd Abdullahi and the Information Officer 11 of the same hospital, Rabiu Musa Borodo, explained that the patient was referred to the neurology surgical clinic of the hospital with abnormalities of the spine about a year ago but due to nonavailability of that equipment the patient was again referred to another health facility.
“Upon there, the patient discovered that she could not afford the funds for the payment of the surgery fees, therefore, came back to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano for another option. Fortunately for her, here is where we are today”, he added.
Dr. Musbahu who was enthusiastic expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the successful conduct and completion of the first spine surgery in AKTH which was done on a fifty-three-year-old woman from Adamawa state.
He assured that between Sunday to Monday the patient would start walking straight (normal) not bending as she was presented to the clinic.
