Supporting and improving agricultural sector through application of science and technology has been described as one of the key measures to tackle social vices and security challenges militating Nigeria
The Team Leader of the participants of the course 30, National Defence College Abuja, Air Commodore Abolaji Orederu stated this while fielding questions from newsmen during their study tour to Jigawa state.
He said, based on what they have seen in Jigawa state, the state is one of the must peaceful states in Nigeria, “the huge investment into agriculture by both government and private has engaged thousands of youths which contributed to peace and stability in the state”.
According to him, application of high technology into agriculture such as that of Malam ALU Agro Allied Farm.is a clear indication that, if agriculture is supported it will grant food security to the nation.
“We understand that, agriculture is one of the area Nigeria has comparative advantage across all the six geopolitical zone, and it has all the potential to provide millions of jobs to our teaming populace which all consequently help in wealth creation and poverty eradication.
“Agriculture and agro- allied companies can be sited every were in Nigeria depending on the available crops and market there” he declared
The Commander noted that, the current insecurity challenges in the country has relationship with poverty and ignorance, so we are optimistic that supporting crops and livestock production can help in addressing the challenge.
He commended the chairman of the Malam Alu Agro Allied company for establishing the farm in his locality “where it improves food production and provide job opportunities to hundreds of youths both male and females”.
Mr Abolaji however applauded the traditional system of security reporting use by traditional institute in the state and the mechanisms put in place to share the information with security agencies and relevant stakeholders, described it as excellent approach and worthy emulation across the nation.
