In a bid to strengthen health workers skills, over 120 Laboratory Scientists were trained on bio risk management of Covid-19 and other emerging respiratory virus in Jigawa state.
Speaking at the closing session of the three days training organized by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Jigawa state branch, the Chairman of the association, Comrade Muhammad Yahaya said the training aims at enhancing the skills of the participants on Laboratory leadership and management for general safety.
He said the theme of the workshop was ‘Laboratory Leadership and Management, Fundamental of Bio Risk Management of Covid-19 and other Emerging Respiratory Virus’ was proposed to tackle emerging challenges in the laboratory.
According to him, the emergence of Covid-19 has posed great challenges on the need to improve the management of laboratory for the safety of the society, health worker and the patient.
“It is indispensable to strictly abide by protective and safety measures in laboratory administration and test to avoid exposing self, patient and public to the risk of virus infection.”
Comrade Muhammad added that, the training will also enable his members to get annual renewal of their “Practicing Licence” in according to the rules and regulations governing their profession.
He said, during the training 18 topics were presented and discussed by resource persons to update the knowledge of the participants against any emerging challenges in laboratory management.
He then commended Jigawa state government, health workers and general public for the role played in tackling the novel coronavirus in the state, urging both sides to maintained the tempo.
