JEP Set to Draft Girl Child Education Policy

The Jigawa Education Partners (JEP) is sets to draft girl child education (GCE) policy that will guide administrative action in the state.

The state’s education partners include Ministry Department and Agencies (MDAs), civil society organizations, person with disabilities and the representatives of the school-based management committee (SBMC) with a view to have citizen’s input in drafting GCE policy.

This is coming during 4-day stakeholders engagement/workshop held in Kano on the draft of GCE policy development, organized by Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL-FCDO).

Jigawa State Commissioner of Education Science and Technology, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo who was also a participant of the meeting reiterated government’s readiness towards supporting girl child education in the state.

He commended PERL for holding series of meetings with a view to support girl child enrollment, transition, retention and completion in Jigawa.

He said some issues like girls’ health, female child retention scheme, girl child reform in order to see that all girl child in all the stream is covered, additional schools and nomadic education which also has similar problem among others has been captured in the 2022 budget.  

He then appreciated the participants for their commitments and contribution in girl child education policy development.

On his part, the PERL Consultant Dr.  Sambo Ingawa, said the objectives of the meeting is to facilitate the development of GCE policy for Jigawa State by the state policy team through open interactions and participative engagement process.

“They participants have keenly participated and have interest in GCE policy development process and have been interacting and contributing vividly in the all proceeding process,” he added.

On his part, a member of (JEP), Alhaji Danjuma Yakubu, said there is high level of political commitment by the government in GCE and enormous resources have been expanded in the area.

Yakubu said girl child education policy will facilitate expedient administrative action in Jigawa State.

Adamu Shuaibu Jigawar tsada who represented People with disabilities said the GCE policy will make a lot of impact on girls with special needs in the state.

He said there are key issues mentioned that will give attention to girls with special needs because of their peculiarities.

Stallion Times reports that the meeting attracted the mind of the participants in ensuring that the girl child is enrolled, transit, retained and complete high-level education.
