After a summer of searching, Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea finally have their centre-forward signing, with the London club releasing a statement on Thursday afternoon confirming that Romelu Lukaku had re-joined the Blues for a club-record fee.

Inter‘s fiscal plight at the hands of Suning ownership has left the club scrambling to sell players, although with Achraf Hakimi having already been let go for 60 million euros, many fans didn’t expect the Belgian to leave.

Chelsea‘s offer of 115 million euros, though, was more than enough to persuade the Nerazzurri to sell, bringing to an end his two-year stay in Serie A.

At 28, Lukaku will now represent Chelsea once again, but for the first time it will be as the headline forward, the main-man, with Tuchel now being tasked at fitting Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in around Lukaku

It has been a decade since Lukaku first arrived at Stamford Bridge from Anderlecht as an 18-year-old, but he is now tied to the Blues until June of 2026.

At 115 million euros, Lukaku breaks the 82m euros Chelsea transfer record which was spent on Havertz, although he is understood to have fallen just short of the British transfer record of 117m euros, which Manchester City currently hold with their purchase of Jack Grealish.

In addition to this, the former Everton forward is now the newest record holder as the player who has had the most money spent on him cumulatively by clubs throughout his career.

He surpasses Neymar‘s 310 million euros with a tally of 328 million euros, which eclipses the 230 million euros collective spent on Cristiano Ronaldo since he left Sporting CP.
