Ese Brume has put Nigeria’s name on the medal’s table at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after a long wait.
Brume won bronze in the long jump event early on Tuesday.
Germany’s Malaika Mihambo’s 7.00m and American Brittney Reese’s 6.97m were better than Brume’s 6.97m.
Brume, who is currently the African Record holder leapt to a distance of 6.76m, 1cm more than the required mark to seal her place in the final.
The disqualification of Ruth Usoro by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) made Brume the only Nigerian athlete in long jump.
Brume was Nigeria’s only medalist at the last World Championship in Doha.
