In an effort to ensure all children get back to class in amidst of economic difficulties caused by Covid-19 pandemic, UNICEF in collaboration with Jigawa state Universal Basic Education Board had distributed school uniform to 1,000 pupils.
Speaking at the distribution of the uniform held at Kauga local government of the state, the UNICEF coordinator in Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Hajiya Umma Abdulqadir Fanini said, the beneficiaries were selected from identified less privileges families.
She said, the distribution of the Uniform is part of the strategies UNICEF/ SUBEB adopted under “Back to School Campaign” aims at ensuring coronavirus pandemic, its social and economic consequences did not aggravate the out of school children problem in the state.
“Jigawa state is one of the state with high rate of out of school children and there .is. a growing fear that the current economic hardship may force many less privileges pupils to abandon their classes”
“To avert the foreseeing eventualities, we lunch the campaign which involved mass public enlightenment, providing incentives and other intervention that can attract and enable parents to send their children to schools in the state” she declared
According to her, the campaign will also give support to address some lapses and gaps caused by lockdown in the administration of primary education.
Mrs. Fanini then called on parents and guardians of the beneficiaries to help the pupils on proper utilization of the uniforms and other leaning materials donated to them.
Some of the parents who spoke at the event expressed their happiness for the intervention and promised to not allowed their children to abandon their classrooms.
