The newly inaugurated Niger Special Vigilante Corps (NSVC), in collaboration with the operatives of the Nigerian Police have recorded success stories in one week.
The Vigilante Corps in a combined raid of the Rafi Local Government Area successfully eliminated some bandits, arrested some others, rescue abducted women and recovered weapons.
It was gathered that the joint operation rescued 11 abducted women, killed four armed bandits and arrested six of their informants.
They were also said to have recovered 28 rustled cattle, 50 sheep and some motorcycles from the armed bandits at Kamfanin Sakaba in Rafi LGA.
Recall that the Niger government launched the vigilante outfit to curtail the activities of armed bandits and youth gangs.
161 members, ten Hilux vehicles and 20 motorcycles were inaugurated as part of phase one of the program.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello explained that the formation, in partnership with the Police, was to streamline activities of local security outfits.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman said the corps were trained on security alert, anti-banditry and youth restiveness.
The NSVC is made up of Chinaka, ADC, Abidoka, WAI Brigade, Hunters’ Group, AOG, Maito and Maitumbi Security Organisation.
