A member of the National Assembly representing Gwadabawa/Illela federal constituency, honourable Abdullahi Balarabe Salame has warned APC leadership against imposing unpopular candidates during elections.

The legislature gave the warning at a stakeholder meeting in Sokoto held at Giginya Hotel.

He said a situation where an unpopular candidate is imposed by a political party to the electorates, the result will be a total failure because the party would not win election.

Hon. Salame who was a former acting Governor and former speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly urged APC supporters in the state to resist any attempt by the so-called political god fathers to imposed candidates on them come 2023.

He explained that as a strong supporter of the APC, he would not fold arms and see the party structure being turned upside -down by some political god fathers in Sokoto for their selfish end.

The legislature who is said to be preparing ground for his ambition to contest Governorship election in the state come 2023 has created a division within some APC stalwarts.

The incumbent Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Manya Achida, hon. Salame and hosts of other APC stalwarts have pitched tents together to fight a common cause ahead of 2023 general elections.

In his remarks during the stakeholders meeting, the speaker SHoA, Hon. Aminu Manya Achida lamented on the increasing cases of insecurity.

He said the issue of insecurity has been giving people of Sokoto state a sleepless night due to wanton killings and kidnapping of one or two of their family members.

“What is the significance of elected political office holders that can not protect the lives and properties of the electorates.

“Should this issue of insecurity continue to spread like a wild fire and government refuse to take action, I will rather seize from contesting elections on future,” the speaker explained.

He further stated that he and other like minds in the new APC are not trying to create division in the party, but are only asking the party to do the right thing in fielding candidates that would be acceptable to the electorates ahead of 2023 elections.
