The Sokoto state Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has commissioned the state-of-the-art Remodelled State Higher Court of justice.
The aged long state high court which was built in early 1976 suffered cracks and dilapidation over the years.
The present administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in its wisdom awarded contract for the remodelling and rehabilitation of entire structure to stand the test of time.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said he and other state Governors are in support of the independence of the judiciary to function according to international best practices.
He said all the three divisions of the state higher court in Isa, Gwadabawa and Tambuwal would be remodelled to the standard.
He said Sokoto state would continue to support judiciary to function effectively and efficiently.
In his welcome address during the commissioning ceremony, the state Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for providing conducive working environment for judicial officers in the state.
He said judicial officers in the state would ever remain grateful to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who according him is one of them as a former practising lawyer who spent a number of years in the profession for putting a smile in the face of judicial staff.
The Governor according to the chief judge last year approved car loans for judges of magistrate courts and judicial staff as a sign of motivation.
He further explained that the Governor approved the modelling and rehabilitation of three newly approved three Higher Courts Divisions in Gwadabawa, Isa and Tambuwal.
In her good will message, the chairperson body of chief judges of Nigeria, Hon justice Kulu Aliyu commended Governor Tambuwal for doing a lot to the judicial sector and indeed other sectors in the state.
She said the Governor deserved commendation for being one of the very few Governors that approved the implementation of the approved executive order signed by President Muhammad Buhari on the judicial autonomy.
She further called on other Governors in the country to emulate the giant stride of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and approved same in their states.
According to her the Governor also approved the payment of benefits to retired judicial officers and staff in the state without discrimination.
Earlier in her address, Justice Amina Augue of the Supreme Court who represented the honourable chief Judge of the federation Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for doing an Excellent job.
Justice Amina appealed to judges and magistrates in the state to reciprocate by delivering justice at its best.
The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Dr Muhammad Saad Abubakar, spoke against greed and mass accumulation of wealth among Muslim Ummah.
He said a Muslims we should learn to be our brother’s keepers; we should use the little we have to make our brothers happy especially during the forthcoming fasting period.
” we should appreciate, Ramadan and used the period to subsidized our products in the market for the sake of Allah and the holly month of Ramadan
He reminded the Muslim Ummah of the possibility of the commencing Ramadan Fast tomorrow Monday and urged them to look for the new crescent.
He said lawyers are the dependence of social justice as such they have a very vital role you play in the administration of justice in the Nigeria.
He hopes the new remodeled edifice would add value to the judiciary, and enhanced quick delivery of Justice.
