Sokoto LGA Poll: Military will be on standby in communities threatened by bandits

The Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SSIEC), says it has planned to deploy military personnel on standby for safe and hitch free local government elections in communities threatened by bandits across the state.

The SSIEC Secretary, Alhaji Nasiru Yahaya Isa disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Stallion Times in Sokoto.

He said that 10 political parties have so far registered to participate in the forthcoming elections.

The parties according to him are APGA, PDP, PRP, DPM and Good Party among others.

He said the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 10, had pledge to deploy more police personnel from Zamfara and Kebbi state to monitor and provide security during and after the elections.

Isa said the commission had held à crucial meeting with the State Commissioner of Police and the AIG with a view to ensure hitch free conduct of the exercise.

According to the Secretary, Army would be deployed to be on standby in some security prone areas before, during and after the conduct of the elections scheduled for the 27th of this month.

The Secretary explains that the Commission has recruited over 12,000 ad-hoc staff for the conduct of the election, adding that efforts would be made to transport sensitive and non sensitive election materials to election centres at the right time.

He appealed to the electorate to come out enmass and vote candidates of their choice.
