Coming to America is a 1988 American romantic comedy film directed by John Landis based on a story originally created by Eddie Murphy, who also starred in the lead role in which Prince Akeem leaves his native Zamunda for Queens, New York. Hoping to find the ideal partner, Murphy’s character pretends to be poor and eventually courts Lisa McDowell, the daughter of a wealthy restaurant owner.
In early 2017, an announcement was publicized which addressed the impending production of a sequel to the film. It was scheduled to be released in cinema theaters on December 18, 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, Amazon Studios bought the distribution rights and will release it digitally on Prime Video on March 5, 2021 and will premiere in Nigerian cinemas too.
In the sequel, Eddie Murphy reprises his role, Craig Brewer as director, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, Paul Bates, James Earl Jones, Wesley Snipes and rapper Rick Ross are cast members.
