Some 4,734 People With Disabilities (PWD) are to benefit from Kano state vulnerable healthcare scheme.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KSCHMA), Dr Halima Muhammad Minjinyawa at an engagement meeting with Persons with Disabilities on Basic Health Care Provision Funds held at the Murtala Muhammad Library multipurpose hall on Wednesday.
According to her, Kano State Government established the KSCHMA in 2016 to achieve universal coverage through a sustainable process of leave no one behind policy statement in which the State government considers PWD a very important group in the society.
She said each cluster will be give 526 forms which will be shared among the poor and most vulnerable, excluding civil servants.
The Senior Special Assistant to his Excellency on Disability Matters, Tasiu Garko expressed appreciation to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the timely intervention for PWDs said, today, the state government has shown that it has PWDs in it’s heart and is working towards making their lives better and further indicated that his office will work with all relevant stakeholders to make sure the right thing is done.
Also speaking at the occasion, Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) commended Kano State Government for the Initiative and called on PWDs to ensure they register and make best use of the opportunity.
The paper presentation by Dr Abdullahi from the programs department of KSCHMA talked on what the scheme entails and the process of registration.
Goodwill messages by representatives of PERL, LAFIYA and Action Against Hunger commended the state government for the timely intervention.
The Northwest Zonal Coordinator National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities, Bilkisu Ado Zango also appreciated the state government for the laudable effort towards uplifting the lives of Persons with Disabilities across the state as well as ensuring that the are not left behind in societal development.
